With a record number of consents for new homes issued last year, construction could still be delayed due to lack of workers, specialist trades and materials.
Even without Covid-19 or other disruptions New Zealand only build around 40,000 homes per year for the entire country.
Many builders are booked up solid for the next 12 to 24 months and a lack of skilled workers, such as carpenters, quantity surveyors and truck drivers, due to border restrictions is not helping the situation.
The building industry is going through a boom period, unfortunately though, many builders are having to turn work away and people with consents are going to have to wait a very long time, or in some cases, the houses won’t get built in the foreseeable future.
The good news for new home builders is that at Cambridge Homes we have maintained our builders and specialist trades staff, and have a good supply of building products at our fingertips. This means we can give pretty firm start and finish dates, even though the timeframes are a bit longer than usual.
